Immigrants who live permanently in Greece, aiming at a better future, constitute a significant number of its population. For their visa it is mandatory to have health insurance cover even if it is through a private insurance company. Immigrants are obliged to have full health contracts.
On 21/10/2014 the Greek Ministry of Health defined all the necessary covers and the minimum requirements that should be included in these contracts.
More specifically such a contract must include:
- Cover for permanent, full or partial disability either from disease or an accident. (At least for 15.000 € per year with maximum limit of the client’s participation in the expenses of 20%)
- Cover for medical expenses caused by disease or an accident. (At least for 1.500 € per year with maximum limit of the client’s participation in the expenses of 20%
- Full healthcare. (At least for 10.000 € per year with maximum limit of the client’s participation in the expenses of 20%)
However, it is clear that insurance contracts with any other special terms and deals will not be approved and they should have one year’s duration. Immigrants can check the progress of their enquiry through the website of Greek Ministry of Interior.
